Dowling Community Garden began in 1943 when subsistence gardens were planted during World War II and is one of two known "Victory Gardens" remaining in the U.S. Dowling contains over 180 plots, serving more than 250 gardeners. Dowling's special focus is preserving older varieties of fruits, vegetables and flowers through educational outreach and seed-saving.
